Gujjar Mohalla (literally the Gujjar neighbourhood) is a small neighbourhood within Aali Village, one of Delhi's 300-odd villages. Given its prime location within the Capital, this area around the village has come up in the last decade as an industrial zone and a choice location for dealerships, factories and offices. This particular neighbourhood, however, does not have access to any of the benefits of Delhi aside from blue-collar jobs, daily-wage work and domestic work as drivers and household help.
The Magic Bus programme in Gujjar Mohalla has been inactive for a year, but our work here recently started again. Currently, there are around 60-65 children working with Magic Bus, a majority of whom are boys.
The Magic Bus Youth Mentor and Community Youth Leaders have identified the problems and needs of the community, and the curriculum has been designed accordingly.
Rapport-building sessions with children in the community have commenced. The Magic Bus team is also organising community meetings and parents’ meetings to encourage more children to participate in Sport for Development sessions.
