Haryana Forms Committee To Set Up NIS-Style Sports Centre

At the beginning of 2012, we are happy to share a recent development as the Government of Haryana moves another step towards sport for all.

Chandigarh, December 13, 2011: Haryana government on Tuesday decided to constitute a committee to recommend the measures required for setting up of a sports centre in the state on the pattern of National Institute of Sports, Patiala and implementation of 'Right to Play'.

The government also decided to set up village level Sports Councils in the state to manage rural stadia. These decisions were taken at a meeting presided over by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday, an official release said. Hooda decided to hand over the Rajiv Gandhirural sports stadia to the village level Sports Councils. The government would provide grant-in-aid to the panchayats for the same.

It may be recalled that 133 rural stadia have been completed out of 209 such stadia being set up in different villages of the state.

Hooda directed for completion of different sports projects being undertaken in rural and urban areas of the state. He also asked for expediting the process of recruitment of ground managers and groundsmen for the rural stadia, which is being done by District Sports Councils.

The chief minister suggested that renowned players' availability should be ensured at sports stadia of the state so that the young and budding players could get inspiration and motivation from them.
