We need to address India’s declining female workforce. For the first time in India we wish to establish a residential institution that focuses on providing livelihood enhancement to girls from economically challenging environments. “The Girls Academy” (yet to be named) will provide upto 300 graduates a year with ”entry level plus one” careers. To achieve this ambitious vision, the organisation is looking for a creative and entrepreneurial leader to take the lead to articulate and execute the ambition of the academy and define a business strategy and an operating model to build a self- sustaining social enterprise. The Dean will provide academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership to the Magic Bus Girls Academy. The position is for a 01-year Contract. We anticipate the project will take 06-12 months to initiate & roll out successfully, post this, and as an iterative process, the position will be renewed YOY basis performance and achievement of milestones. The position will be based out of both the Head Office of Magic Bus India Foundation at Vikhroli West, Mumbai, and Magic Bus Girls Academy at Karjat.
  • Lead programme design and development activities to plan, research, roll out and evaluate the right programmes for girls

The Regional Director is responsible for achieving high impact at scale, in improving the quality of lives of hundreds of thousands of children, adolescents and young people living in poverty through the childhood to livelihood journey.

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership in positioning Magic Bus impact, its organisational mission and the manner it needs to be located within the larger canvas of government or partner programmes to drive the childhood to livelihood agenda.

  • Contribute to Magic Bus organisational vision, goals and the growth story in building credible evidence, process pathways for change and long term measurable impact on the ground

  • As a member of the Senior Executive Team, you will make a leading contribution to the overall strategy and organisational development of Magic Bus as well as Lead and inspire volunteers and employees.

  • Build and nurture government partnerships at state-level and district-level to ensure Magic Bus contributes to as well as influence the government's policy agenda and is a point of reference in the concerned states in the area of life skills education and empowerment of adolescents and young people.

2. Programme Management :

  • Oversee the design and implement portfolio of high quality, well-managed, result-oriented and impactful programmes in line with the programme implementation plan in the region that brings about positive changes in the lives of children

  • Ensure realisation of Programme results as evidenced by the evaluations

  • Institutionalise strong systems and processes to operationalise the region including programme execution and automating the processes wherever appropriate for efficiency, enhanced quality and effectiveness

  • Deliver a structured induction programme to each group of youth starting on the Livelihood programme

  • Lead all training in the Livelihood Centres for the Magic Bus Livelihood programme, which delivers skill training to youth and supports them into jobs and further education and placements

  • Deliver Sports for Development activities to youth using Magic Bus curriculum and in house resources to engage youth successfully and enhance their learning

  • Deliver training content developed by Magic Bus National Programme Development Team and tailor this where necessary to the local context whilst ensuring session outcomes are delivered.

  • Ensure training outcomes are achieved in each session and youth receive consistent messages throughout all training interventions

  • Design an effective Livelihood Centre training timetable with the Centre Coordinator and ensure that this is constantly monitored and updated to enable youth to access the training they need

  • Apply and continuously develop innovative training techniques to make training more effective, fun and interactive

  • Undertake comprehensive needs assessments 1:1 with youth to identify their strengths & limitations, training and life skills needs and overall targets for the programme

  • Work in partnership with the Centre Coordinator or specialist career counsellors during the needs assessment to ensure youth have the impartial information, advice and guidance that empowers them to make positive choices about potential careers

  • Act as the lead worker in the first phase of youth’s engagement with Magic Bus Livelihood programme and ensure all youth receive the full and proper offer during this time

  • Using the needs assessment and guidance findings to support each youth to draw up a Personal Development Plan that contains the training activities and targets that they will work towards

  • Support youth to achieve the skills training, mentoring and employer activities outlined in their individual Personal Development Plans in partnership with the Placement and Partnership Officers who focus on referrals to employers and training institutions

  • Lead the matching of youth to mentors and support mentors to deliver their roles successfully.

  • Engage and motivate youth positively at all times ensuring youth are aware of their weekly timetables and attend the correct sessions

Be overall responsible for liaising, networking and collaborating as well as developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders including relevant ministries, state government, institutions and bodies connected to education and life skill. To deepen Magic Bus’s engagement with government departments, relevant schemes and Programmes to synergize Magic Bus’s broader goals of building relevant government partnerships and enhance programme opportunities.

Core Outcomes:

  • Government values Magic Bus’s partnership and considers Magic Bus as a point of reference in the life-skill education space, values the C2L approach

  • Enable Mb to undertake evidence based advocacy with the government

Overarching goals:

  • Devise effective strategy to build strong network at various levels in relevant ministries, state government along with Regional Teams and key internal stakeholders

  • Develop five year plan for Government partnership in lines with Magic Bus’s vision and mission along with the CPO, Programme Delivery team, Strategy team and other internal stakeholders

  • Work closely with PD and Communications team to identify global and national campaigns that will be beneficial for Magic Bus to be associated so as to achieve short and long term goals

  • Guide and work with CRMs to help them prepare briefs and updates for government meetings for key Programmes with focus on government partnerships

Evidence-based advocacy:

To plan and lead the Entrepreneurship Development Programme of Magic Bus which include activities like rural livelihood & MSME development, financial inclusion, strategic planning, effective implementation with program management, empanelment and strengthening of local market linkages, networking & policy advocacy with major stakeholders, convergence with government line departments, documenting Best Practices, planning & strengthening of programme governance, and institution-building for the aspiring rural-entrepreneurs from the marginalized & disadvantaged background.

  • Lead the design and planning of entrepreneurship & MSME development, and support components of the programme

  • Manage the implementation of entrepreneurship and MSME development components of the programme

  • Lead the design of the overall programme in multiple models which will enable the objective of identification & creation of MSME entrepreneurs, mainly rural, both in association with Knowledge partners as well as through in-house expertise

  • Design, plan and upgrade entrepreneurship and enterprise development materials, training activities and plans, training programmes, materials and tools, pre- and post-tests as required

  • Deliver training programmes with support of other team members and knowledge partners

  • Continually identify specific training needs and support required for components of the project as appropriate

Academic & Professional requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of total work experience, out of which a minimum of 05 years of Entrepreneurship & MSME experience in a leadership role

  • Post-graduation in Management/MSW/Social Science

  • Experience working in one or more of the following areas an asset: business skills training, business incubation hubs, business development services, self-practiced rural entrepreneur

  • Come with a network of critical market linkages to create & develop rural entrepreneurship

  • Experience of working with and managing staff based remotely

  • Willing to travel extensively to all parts of India

Accountable to exponentially increase Magic Bus’s ability to raise money in Singapore from the current financial contributions of S$ 1 million. We have been operating as a fundraising hub for India with company status for a few years.

Living Magic Bus’ vision

  • Understand board’s vision and take accountability for creating impact in the society and achieving specific goals and objectives

  • Understand the market intelligence

  • Report and deliberate on impacts created on the ground

Create and deliver a fund raising strategy for Magic Bus – Corporate Fundraising

  • Establish a strong regional fundraising plan

  • Position Magic Bus as a leading development organisation to this target market

  • Conceptualise the product lines, team structure and execution

  • Evaluate various distribution channels

  • Nurture existing strategic partners and sustain and enhance fund flow to the charity

  • Acquire new corporate clients

Events / HNI

  • To develop the events strategy and manage the events programme

  • Structure, plan, manage and execution events/ galas in a phased manner there by maximize the targeted revenue for the charity

  • Develop strategies to identify and build the HNI customers for the charity thereby achieving targeted revenues

  • Develop product lines in alignment with the interest of the target audience

Create Strong Institutional Relationships

  • Create strong and strategic relationships with key Institutions in the region

  • Build on existing relationships with the Government of Singapore and the National University of Singapore

  • Play a key role in influencing and advocating in the region

  • Negotiate and partner with a significant number of non-profits in the region

  • Represent Magic Bus at conferences and forums where appropriate

Donor Relations

  • Ensure effective Customer Relationship Management

  • Effective management and liaison with our Strategic Partners, Institutional funders and Corporations

  • To meet customer expectations, particularly in terms of Quality and Timeliness in line with organizational standards, procedures and guidelines

To become a significant Regional brand

  • Oversee PR and Communication strategy for Singapore

  • Work with Magic Bus communication partners to ensure we leverage our brand to its fullest

  • Legal set up and oversight of International Charity Organization (or appropriate alternative) in Singapore

Qualification and Experience:

  • Management degree or similar professional qualification from a reputed institution

  • 15/20 years’ experience in Marketing & Sales - 5 years must have been in a similar leadership role

  • Leading fund raising experience with proven track record of performance in similar role
