About Delhi

A-Block, Jasola village, is located in south Delhi and is home to 400 people. Both Hindu and Muslims live together. Daily wage work is the only source of livelihood. Residents work as plumbers, rickshaw-pullers, and guards. Most women are employed as domestic workers in residential societies surrounding this community.

Among the many deprivations known to the people living here, lack of quality drinking water is one of the harshest. It grows particularly acute during the summer months. Substance abuse is a common evil affecting children to a great extent. The thrust of Magic Bus’ work has been towards discouraging this habit among children and young adults.

Magic Bus has been working in this community since 2011. At present, we have 60 children on our programme here.

A few of the areas of behaviour change addressed by Magic Bus volunteers and mentors include:

  • Importance of personal and environmental hygiene
  • Equal treatment of boys and girls
  • Importance of education
  • Respect for elders

Magic Bus Sessions here are divided into three broad parts:

  • Warm up: The development goal is introduced using interactive activities
  • Main activity: The development goal is reinforced using sports and activities
  • Review: A discussion is facilitated to draw parallels to real-life situations and sum up the learning objectives.
