Magic Bus' work in this community is made possible with the support of our donors, Aditya Mathur.
Thank you Aditya!
Badarpur in South Delhi is home to around 5,000 people living in 1,000 households. Most people in the community are engaged in manual labour and small local businesses. There are around 100 children in the age group of 7-14 in the area.
People in this location suffer from some serious problems like sanitation, shortage of clean water and lack of a school in the community.
Given this, 60% of the children at Badarpur still attend nearby schools. Unfortunately though, there are no physical education teachers at these schools and it becomes difficult for children to experience the freedom of play.
The community organises regular meetings through Gram Sabhas, which are held twice a year and festivals like Holi and Diwali are celebrated on a large scale at Badarpur.
Magic Bus started operations in Badarpur in 2011 but had to stop working here soon after. We re-started operations in May 2014. Currently, 35 students attend sessions here, out of which 18 are boys and the rest are girls.
The programme is following the rapport-building sessions and will continue to do so for the next 15-20 days. It helps children build a harmonious understanding and relationship with another individual or group that enables greater and easier communication.
Sessions are held on four days of the week and each lasts for two hours. Sessions take place twice a day and are divided into three parts:
As the programme started only recently, sessions cover basic topics such as communication skills and rapport building.
