Block H, Sawda (in North-West Delhi), is a small resettlement community. This 11-year old community is inhabited by migrants from other states of the country.
Employment opportunities in Sawda are limited, and most men are engaged in manual, daily-wage labour. The women in this community support their families by working as domestic maids in nearby houses. Many children work as rag-pickers.
Given the lack of creative or productive opportunities in the environment, petty crime attracts a lot of the children, especially as they enter their teens. It is Magic Bus’ mandate to attract these at-risk children into our programme and connect them to their entitlements by working on behavior change.
