About Kurnool District
With a population of 1,950, Model colony is located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Mostly Hindus, people living here speak Telugu. Most of them are daily wagers working in a local factory which manufactures pipes.
The nearest primary health centre is at a distance of 10km from the locality. The nearest hospital (private) is 2.5km away. There are six schools in the locality – four of them are private schools. Magic Bus began its intervention in this community in 2014. There are 30 children on our programme here.
Impact
A few of the areas of behaviour change addressed by Magic Bus volunteers and mentors include:
- Importance of personal and environmental hygiene
- Equal treatment of boys and girls
- Importance of education
- Respect for elders
Faces of change
Sessions are held twice every week on Sundays between 4.00 and 5.30pm.
Magic Bus Sessions here are divided into three broad parts:
- Warm up: The development goal is introduced using interactive activities
- Main activity: The development goal is reinforced using sports and activities
- Review: A discussion is facilitated to draw parallels to real-life situations and sum up the learning objectives.
