Magic Bus' work in this community is made possible with the support of our donor, Anju Patel.
Thank you, Anju!
With a population of 1292, M.V Nagar is a slum cluster in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Most of the households in this locality are cement-and-brick structures or what is known as pucca houses in India. Inhabitants primarily belong to a single social group, Malas, who are enlisted as a Scheduled Caste group in Andhra Pradesh. Telugu is the main spoken language. Almost 98 percent of the households here fall below the poverty line.
Agriculture is the only source of livelihood for people living in this community. It is well-connected to a primary health centre and hospital. A school and college also lie in the vicinity.
Magic Bus started operating in this area in 2011. Child labour has been one of the biggest problems in this area. Due to lack of adequate livelihood options throughout the year, children are often employed to supplement the family income. We have been focussing on overcoming this tendency in the community through our activity-based sessions.
We have 46 children attending our sessions at M.V Nagar.
