About Delhi

Om Nagar is located in South Delhi’s Meethapur school road.

With a population of approximately 2,500 out of which 800 are children, Om Nagar is a large colony of migrants. People from different religions live together. Makeshift houses, with plastic and cement sheets serving as roof, are predominant. Residents are usually daily wage workers, drivers, shop assistants or security guards. The conditions of living are abysmal: people live along accumulated garbage. There is absolutely no awareness about garbage disposal techniques.

Since March 2014, Magic Bus has started working in the community school of Om Nagar.

Deep rooted gender stereotypes are often one of the greatest deterrents for girls to be involved in sports. Ask the Youth Mentors and Community Youth Leaders (CYLs) of Om Nagar and they would repeat how it was a challenge to get girls to attend mixed-gender sessions, and be out of their homes to play.

This was the initial barrier that our Community Youth Leaders (CYLs) crossed to get Radhika in the sessions. Her brother was a part of the Magic Bus sessions and after having had extensive discussions with parents, our staff could finally get girls to play.

Radhika came for the sessions with her brother. Our Youth Mentor noticed that she would not clean herself properly. Fearing the effect of this on her health, Youth Mentor Karuna, explained to her the value of cleanliness and of having nutritious food. The message was repeated during sessions as well. Over time, Karuna began noticing little changes in Radhika. At present,

Sessions are held on Tuesday and Sunday every week between 7am and 9am and 5pm to 7pm, both days inclusive.

Magic Bus Sessions here are divided into three broad parts:
