When Jigyasa first stepped onto the football field at her school in Himachal Pradesh, she didn’t see herself as a leader. She was simply another student trying something new.
But that moment changed something.
With encouragement from her coach and the life skills sessions introduced through Magic Bus , Jigyasa slowly began to see herself differently. The football field became more than a place to play, it became a space where she discovered confidence, resilience, and a voice she didn't know she had.
Across India, thousands of girls are experiencing similar turning points.
This International Women’s Day, Magic Bus celebrates these journeys through LeadHERship , a campaign that highlights how education, life skills, and career opportunities are empowering young women to shape their own futures
Despite improvements in girls education, the transition from education to employment remains difficult for many young women in India. As per Worldbank.org data, female labour force participation is still relatively low, with only about 32–33% of women participating in the workforce, compared with much higher global averages.
Behind this number are several barriers. Social expectations often limit career choices, access to training opportunities remains uneven, and professional pathways are not always visible to girls growing up in underserved communities.
Addressing these challenges is essential for strengthening women empowerment in India . When women gain access to education, skills, and meaningful employment, the benefits extend far beyond individual success. Families become more secure, communities become stronger, and societies move closer to equality.
This Women’s Day, discover how sport is helping young girls challenge stereotypes and lead with confidence.
Bridging the gap between education and employment requires more than academic learning. Young people also need confidence, practical skills, and exposure to real opportunities.
Magic Bus India Foundation works to break the cycle of poverty by connecting education to livelihood opportunities for youth. Through mentorship, life skills education, and skill development for women, the organisation helps young people build the capabilities needed to pursue sustainable careers.
For girls and young women in India, this support can be life-changing.
The journey begins during adolescence, when our adolescence programme focusses on communication, decision-making, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. These are the building blocks that help young people, especially girls, gain confidence and navigate challenges in education, work, and everyday life.
In the programme, girls represented 52% of the participants, actively participating in sessions designed to strengthen confidence, resilience, and leadership which are essential qualities for nurturing women leadership India in the future.
When women rise, entire communities rise with them. Discover why investing in women is one of the most powerful drivers of social and economic progress.
Empowerment is rarely a single moment. It often begins with small experiences that gradually shape confidence and ambition.
This is the idea behind LeadHERship.
It highlights how leadership starts much earlier than many people realise. It begins when a girl learns to express her thoughts in a classroom, when she starts trusting her abilities, and when she believes that her aspirations are worth pursuing.
But building confidence is only part of the journey. Real empowerment takes shape when young women are able to turn their education and skills into meaningful opportunities.
Through the Magic Bus Livelihood Programme , young women receive life skills education, career guidance, and workplace readiness support that help them transition into sustainable employment. Today, around 60–61% of youth enrolled in the programme are young women, many of whom become the first in their families to step into professional careers.
For many of them, the journey from classrooms to careers becomes a turning point, one that not only transforms their own lives but also strengthens the financial stability of their families.
This is where empowering young women truly creates lasting impact.
Investing in young women today therefore represents an investment in a more inclusive and prosperous future for the country.
